Quietly Potent: Yin Yoga + Meditation with Shonna
Southern Albert Art Gallery (SAAG)
January 9 - 30
Tuesday's at 5:30p – 6:30p
Class by Suggested Donation: $10 ($5 for students)
Deeply nourishing, Yin Yoga is a powerful practice to add to your self-care tool box. The effects are cumulative; the more you practice this style of Asana, (you may find) the more you want to do it.
On a physical level, Yin Yoga enhances the natural range of motion in your joints. By keeping your muscles soft for longer holds, you release deep layers of connective tissue, creating more ease in any style of yoga, during your seated meditation or while simply rolling through your day to day.
Mentally, holding poses for three to five minutes trains you to become more comfortable with discomfort instead of becoming alarmed. It marries meditation and asana into a deeply personal practice.
On an energetic level, Yin enhances the flow of prana (life force) in the tissues around the joints, where energy often stagnates. Sequences strengthen specific energy channels (called nadi’s in yoga or meridians in Chinese Medicine), which supports the organs, immune system and emotional well-being.
This practice is open to all levels, ages 16+. Bring a water bottle, yoga mat, dress comfortably and (highly suggested yet optional) blanket for Savasana.
